Fall Classic Final Game Draws Over 50 Million Audience Members Across the United States, Canadian and Japan Regions.

The thrilling extra-inning matchup that saw the Dodgers overcome the Blue Jays 5-4 averaged a total 51 million watchers across the US, Canadian, and Japan markets. MLB stated this represents the most-watched World Series finale since the 1991 edition showdown featuring the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Viewership Breakdown

Last Saturday’s memorable contest drew 27.33M viewers on Fox Sports channels, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s streaming platforms. Per ratings data, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the week.

It also stands as the top-rated Fall Classic game after the 2017 edition Game 7 involving the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged over 29 million. This represents a 16% increase compared to the last Game 7 between the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19 million viewers.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game placed 4th, the fourth game ranked 7th, Game 5 came in eighth, and the third game landed in thirteenth place.

Global Audience Figures

In the Canadian market, the game averaged 11.6M watchers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports. This was the most-watched English program in Canada after the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding game started at 9 PM local time, it attracted 12 million. This followed last Friday’s sixth game – where World Series Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up one run in six frames – averaged 13.1M viewers, making it the most-watched Fall Classic game on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Overall Totals and Trends

The full seven-game series averaged 15.71M audience members on Fox, a 2% rise from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This represents the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has recorded audience increases for two consecutive seasons.

Counting the Game 1 telecast on the Univision network, the complete US average reached 16.1M. The total World Series average in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The complete playoffs on Fox and its sister channels averaged 8.09 million viewers, an eight percent increase over last year and Fox’s best postseason ratings after the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball stated that the Fall Classic was broadcast in over 200 nations and regions by forty-four media partners in 16 various tongues.
